She grew up in Washington, North Carolina and attended East Carolina Teachers College and soon after began a career as a bookkeeper. After moving to Greensboro, she became an active member of Jamestown United Methodist Church, participating in the Circle of Faith and Prayer Shawl Ministry, and volunteering at JUMC's Outreach Center. She enjoyed reading, knitting, crossword puzzles, and was an avid fan of mystery movies and TV shows. Winnie loved flowers and gardening brought her much joy. She didn't let age get in her way, and even when she had to rely on a walker to get around in the yard, she still managed to garden. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Joe, and former husband, Wesley Boykin. Those left to cherish the many memories of Winnie Rose include her daughter, Kimberly (David) Young; granddaughters, Rachel (Jared), Catherine; brother, Malvia; three nephews, their families, and others. A memorial service will be held July 27, 2024, at 2pm at Jamestown United Methodist Church, 403 East Main Street, Jamestown, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Boys & Girls Home of North Carolina, P.O. Box 127, Lake Wacamaw, NC 28450 or your local Hospice.
