Mr. William “Bill” Thompson Noblitt, 82, of Statesville, passed away, Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Gordon Hospice House. Mr. Noblitt was born February 6, 1934 in Shelby, NC and was the son of the late Perry Gold and Annie Mae Grigg Noblitt. He graduated from Shelby High School and joined the U.S Air Force during the Korean War. On May 18, 1963, he married the late Rachel Jurney Noblitt, who died September 28, 2015. After his duty in Korea, he graduated from Appalachian State University, majoring in English and History. He became a newspaper writer in Shelby and later at The Charlotte News, where he covered local and state politics, wrote a daily column and eventually became city editor. He later moved to Raleigh, where he wrote a daily column which appeared in a syndicate of approximately 50 newspaper across the state. He also was a teacher at South Iredell High School, teaching English, History and Journalism. Mr. Noblitt is survived by one daughter, Allison Kessinger (Derrick) of Mt. Gilead, NC and three grandchildren, Zachary, Anna Rose and Joshua. A celebration of Mr. Noblitt’s life will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel.
