William Lewis Holmes, 74, of Roanoke Va., died Thursday, September 26, 2019, at his residence.
He was born in Iredell County on September 9, 1945 to the late Lewis Clay and Mildred Journey Holmes and was also preceded in death by a loving niece; Lori Batts and stepson; Christopher Roy Finney.
He was a Vietnam veteran who proudly served his country. He served in the Army for 11 years, and was a member of the American Legion, AMVETS and DAV.
Survivors include his loving wife; Debra Richards Holmes, 2 sons; Bill Holmes (Kristen) and Todd Holmes, a step-son; Shad Finney, 2 grandchildren; Will and Dabney Holmes, sisters; Brenda Holmes and Darlene Felts (David), nephews; Billy Batts and Cameron Felts, a niece; Summer Trail, great-nephew; Hunter Batts, great-niece; Seanna Trail, and a special cousin; Joy Holmes.
A Graveside service will be held Monday, September 30, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Macedonia UMC Cemetery on Tabor Rd, Harmony, with Pastor James Lewis officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Disabled Veterans Fund, VA Reg. Office Fed. Bldg., 251 N. Main St, Room 151, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Condolences may be left at www.nicholsonfunerals.com . Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the Holmes family.
