William Luther Hamiter, 89, peacefully went home to be with the Lord surrounded by both of his children on September 10, 2019 at Gordon Hospice House.
Born on September 26, 1929 in Columbia, South Carolina, he was the son to the late Stanley and Sarah Fellers Hamiter Sr. Bill an officer in the US Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. Bill graduated from Clemson University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. Bill enjoyed a long and successful career as a textile chemist and ended his career as a plant manager in Statesville.
Bill was a faithful Christian and rarely missed a Sunday at St. John’s Lutheran where he sang in the choir and served on numerous committees. Bill was an avid golfer and made a hole-in-one on one occasion.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Berrian Hamiter; brother, Stanley Hamiter Jr.; and sisters, Lillian Dimling and Katherine Bone.
Left to cherish his memory is his son, Mark Hamiter; daughter, Lisa (Rick) Cotterman; five grandchildren and many other loving family members.
Family will receive friends this Friday, 9-13-19, from 11:00am to 12:00pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 740 N Center St, Statesville, NC 28677. A celebration of life service will be held immediately following visitation on Friday September 13th, at 12pm at with Pastor Ernie Sheldon officiating. In lieu of flowers or memorials donations may be made to Hospice.
