William Minford (Bill) Chatham, Sr.

Mr. William “Bill” Minford Chatham, Sr., 92, of Union Grove, NC, passed away Monday, December 19, 2016, at his home. Mr. Chatham was born in Wilkes County on August 7, 1924, and was the son of the late Peter Chatham and Nancy Johnson Chatham.  He attended Wilkes County schools and on May 22, 1943, he married Mae Mahaffey Chatham, who preceded him in death on November 20, 2014. He was a member of North Iredell Baptist Church and was retired from Carolina Mirror where he worked as a machine operator. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Marlowe, five brothers, John, Robert, Grover, Theodore, and Crosby Chatham and seven sisters, Mae C. Hollaway, Mandy Chatham, Laurie C. McCoy, Novella C. Cass, Lucine C. Percel, Dorothy C. Nicholson, and Fannie C. Love. Mr. Chatham is survived by a daughter, Sallie C. Nelson (Lonnie); three sons, William M. Chatham, Jr., Jeffrey M. Chatham, and Roger D. Chatham (Barbara); ten grandchildren, Hope Dula, Cecil Marlowe, Audrey C. Moose, Angie C. Anderson, Billy W. Chatham III, Kristy C. Potts, Heather Chatham, Jeffrey M. Chatham Jr., and Hannah Chatham.  He is further survived by 17 great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Chatham will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 22, 2016, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Sharon Snow and Pastor Paul Siceloff officiating.  Burial will follow in the Scenic Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Wilkesboro, NC.  The family will visit with friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home.
