Wayne Robert Ward

Wayne Robert Ward, 72, of Statesville, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice House.  He was born on November 16, 1946 in Long Valley, NJ to the late Asa Douglas Ward and Stella Brouch Ward.

Wayne was a Churchmans Business College graduate and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army.  On February 28, 1970, he married Emma Ruth Groff, who survives.  They shared over 48 years of marriage before his passing.  He was retired from Wesley Community Development where he was an accountant.  Wayne was a member of Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church where he served in different capacities including Head of the PPRC and Sunday School teacher.  He loved his church family.  He was a member of American Legion Post 65.  Wayne was loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved traveling and golf but golf did not love him.  Everyone was entertained while watching him play golf.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Robert Ward II, two granddaughters, Rylee and Lila Ray McLaughlin; two sisters, Alberta Phifer and Doris Ward; and one brother, Douglas Ward.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Emma; one daughter, Rebecca McLaughlin (Frank Geelen); two granddaughters, Brianna Collins and Kaitlin Dalton; two grandsons, Kyle and Malcom McLaughlin; and three sisters, Joyce Pratt, Bernyce Wubbenhorst, and Linda Zan.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church with Rev. Sara Scruggs and Pastor John Groff officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow at the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  The family will visit with friends at the church prior to the service from 11:00 until 11:45am.
