Walter Blackmer

Statesville- Mr. Walter Blackmer, 87, passed away on November 25, 2019 at his residence with his family by his side.
Born on July 19, 1932 in Northampton, New York to the late Edward Merle and Sarah Bowbekin Blackmer. Walter was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and a Graduated of Both Purdue University and the U.S. Army War College. As a Geodetic Surveyor and Physical Scientist, he contributed to manned and unmanned space programs from Gemini to the Space Shuttle as well as conducting the Initial GPS Acceptance Testing.
He is survived by his wife, Cleo Blackmer; son, Bill (Cosette) Blackmer; daughter, Rachael (Joseph) Sak; two grandsons, Joseph and Adam Sak and other loving family members.
A celebration of Walter’s life will be held later in the springtime.
