Veanna Hedrick Laws

Veanna Hedrick Laws, 85, of Statesville, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015 at Autumn Care of Statesville.  She was born in Yadkin County on April 11, 1930 to the late William Ralph and Anna Gentle Hedrick. Mrs. Laws was a graduate of West Yadkin High School and on September 19, 1951 married Billy Reid Laws.  They had 53 years of marriage before his passing in 2004.  She started her career at Bell Telephone, worked for Hunter Brothers and Flexnit before becoming secretary for Statesville Stained Glass.  She was a member of Western Avenue Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking, cleaning, and reading her Bible. Along with her parents and husband, Billy, she was also preceded in death by a son Tony Ray Laws; three brothers, J.D., Waldo, and Leroy Hedrick; and one sister, Louise Ladd. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Billy Craig Laws (June) of Statesville; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild, and one brother, Sanford Hedrick (Mary Ann) of Harmony. Funeral services for Mrs. Laws will be held 11:00 AM Monday, April 27, 2015 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. James D. Cartin officiating.  Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery.  The family will visit with friends Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home.
