Tommy Carlton Woodfin, 78, of Statesville, passed away, Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Tommy was born April 15, 1937 in Alexander County to the late William Frank and Cleo St. Clair Woodfin. He was a graduate of Taylorsville High School and Lenior Rhyne College, where he earned a degree in teaching. After teaching for 32 years, he retired in order to devote more time to his honey and beekeeping business. He was involved in beekeeping for over 60 years. Tommy was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the UNC basketball program. He was a member of Monticello United Methodist Church and was an active member of the United Methodist Men. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bob Woodfin. Tommy is survived by the love of his life, the former Brenda Little, who he married on June 13, 1975. Also left to cherish his memory are two children, D’Anne W. Melvin (Dan) of Charlotte, NC and Joseph P. Clendenin (Tina) of Statesville along with four grandchildren, Courtney Anne Melvin, Tyler Scott Melvin, Sarah Catherine Melvin and Noah Austin Clendenin. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2015 at Monticello United Methodist Church with Rev. Jill Rhinehart. The family will receive friends Sunday evening 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Monticello UMC. Memorials may be made to the debt reduction fund of Monticello UMC or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
