Thomas E. "Tommy" Melvin, Sr, 58, of Statesville, died Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice House.
He was born March 28, 1961 in Bluefield, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Donald Willis Melvin and Elizabeth Shirleen Melvin. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law; Charles Wayne Gillespie.
Tommy was a 1979 graduate of Graham High School and a 2004 graduate of Mitchell College. He was a former Police Officer for the City of Statesville and spent his last 25 years as a maintenance technician and supervisor at Alcatel, ASMO and NGK Ceramics. His favorite thing to do was spending time with his family whether it be camping, swimming, parties, or just watching tv. His hobby was building and painting plastic models. His favorite genre was Science Fiction, but he built military models as well. He wanted to be known for one saying; “Family is not only blood, but built on Love”. This is evident by those who loved him and those he loved.
Tommy leaves behind his wife, Dianna, of 40 years, 3 children; Lacy Melvin Hinson and husband Michael, Thomas Edward Melvin, Jr. (T.J.), and Donald Anthony Melvin, 4 grandchildren; Haven Tomel, Rylan Tomel, Nolan Hinson and Cole Hinson, his sister; Lisa Colley (Randy), mother-in-law; Shirley Gillespie, brothers-in-law; Gary (Linda), Mark (Patty), Paul (Sonya) and many precious nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held for Tommy May 8, 2019 at 6:00 pm at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tom Sherrod officiating. The family will visit with family and friends following the service.
