Miss Thelma Lucille Swicegood, formerly of 117 Ridgeway Ave, Statesville, passed away on October 31, at the age of 93. At age 16, she went to work at Stimpson's Hosiery Mill and remained there for 50 years before retiring in 1986. Miss Swicegood's parents were the late Lonnie and Maud Murphy Swicegood. Preceding her in death were a sister, Mae Deal, brothers, Marvin and Otis Swicegood, and a nephew, Kenny Goforth. Survivors include five sisters, Helen Graham, Nellie Austin, Betty Jo Anderson, Margie Peacock, and Peggy Redmond. She is also survived by nephews Craig Deal, Buddy Swicegood, Gary Swicegood, and Ron Redmond; nieces include Shirley Forbes, Barbara Fisher, Rebecca Pettit, Donna Swicegood, Kay Goforth, Carolyn Johnson, Debbie Triplett, and Sandra Haynes. Special friends were her neighbors, Denny and the late Laverne Sloan, and the late Gerald and Mary Alice Houck. She was a member of Western Avenue Baptist Church and The Golden Age Sunday School class. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm Sunday at the church, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm which will be conducted by her pastor, Dr. Skip Cartin. A private family burial will be held. Her nephews will serve as pallbearers. Nicholson Funeral Home is assisting the family of Miss Swicegood. Memorials may be made to Western Avenue Baptist Church and Hospice of Iredell County.
