Steven “Steve” Michael Thompson, 58, of Statesville, passed away Monday, September 7, 2015, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Thompson was born in Iredell County on July 25, 1957, and was the son of Eugene Sloan Thompson and the late Carolyn Bunch Thompson. He attended Iredell County schools and on April 20, 1975, he married Betty Duke Thompson, who survives. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and he was a boat technician with Perth Marine. Steve was a man who loved family and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening and being outdoors and loved going to the mountains, especially Pigeon Forge, TN. Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Thompson, who passed away on September 6, 2015, along with an infant sister, Sheila Thompson. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 40 years, Betty Thompson, one son, Ricky Duke (Lisa) of Statesville, along with two grandsons, David and Josh Duke, and three granddaughters, Natalie Duke and Paige and Hailey Uptain, all of Statesville. He is also survived by one brother, Ricky Thompson of Douglasville, GA, and two sisters, Carole T. Myers (Allen) and Lisa T. Bryson (Jeff), both of Statesville. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as his beloved fur baby, “Cindy”. Funeral services honoring Steve Thompson will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, September 11, 2015, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Davis and Jeff Bryson officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 until 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
