Steve Ray Grant

November 19, 1950 — February 18, 2019

Steve Ray Grant, 68, of Statesville, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Iredell County on November 19, 1950, he was a son of the late Braxton Grant and Ida Wilson Grant.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Grant and two sisters, Arleen Wilcox and Phyllis Grant.

Mr. Grant was a member of Union Grove Christian Church. He enjoyed John Deere tractors, working on them and using them in parades in Harmony, Mocksville and Troutman. He could fix anything.  He enjoyed basketball, especially Duke basketball and loved his grandkids and being outside.  He will be missed by all that knew him.

He began his career with Gilbert Engineering, and later was a crane operator for G.L. Wilson Building Company. After retiring from there, he became the owner/operator of Steve R. Grant Trucking until his health declined.

On April 29, 1978, he married the former Rachel Oleta Grose who survives. Also surviving are a son, Brian S. Grant, a daughter, Amanda Grant Miller (Andy), a brother, Donald Grant and three sisters, Evelyn Harris, Nancy Goodman (Kenneth) and Faye Garrison (Leon). Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Geraldine Grant. Additional survivors include seven grandchildren: Kristin Lowrance (Jack), Logan Miller (Renee), Jackson Miller, Austin Martinez, Kloey Grant, Steven Ray Grant and Holten Grant along with three great grandchildren: Raelyn Lowrance, Elaina Miller and Jackson Menscer.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 Thursday at Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allen Lunsford and Rev. Roger Crider officiating. Burial will follow in the Ham’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening (Wednesday) at Nicholson Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
