Oistein “Stan” Windingland Eliassen, 91, of Statesville, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 18, 2019 at Maple Leaf Health Care. He was born on June 18, 1927 in Norway to the late Erling W. Eliassen and Marie Henriette Hansen Eliassen.
Mr. Eliassen was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and on September 20, 1952 he married Marjorie Purdy Eliassen. She preceded him in death on July 21, 2014 but they shared over 61 years of marriage before her passing. Stan was computer engineer who worked in the Aerospace Industry and was contracted out to NASA to work on the Apollo 11 project. He was a veteran of the Korean War in the U. S. Army and was a Purple Heart Recipient.
Along with his parents and wife, Margorie, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eric and a sister, Lise.
Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Kim Mulrey (Steve) of Statesville and Jan Racca (Tom) of Northboro, MA along with two grandsons, David, and his fiance’ Alyssa Chaplin and Brian Racca (Melissa).
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Stan Eliassen will be held at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, February 23 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Fitzgerald officiating. The family will greet friends in the church parlor for one hour prior to the service. Limited military rites will be presented at the conclusion of the service in the sanctuary.
