[caption id="attachment_7225" align="alignleft" width="108" caption="O.B. O'Brien"][/caption] Richard Leo "O.B." O'Brien, Sr., 73, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014, at his home. Mr. O'Brien was born May 5, 1940 in Cambridge, MASS and was the son of the late Leo F. O'Brien and Helen Fuglested O'Brien. He graduated from high school in Massachusetts and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from Bartlett Mills in 2011 where he worked in maintenance and plumbing and he also worked as a supervisor with Bost Bakery. O.B. was a man who enjoyed fishing, home improvements, and fixing up things. He was a people person and he loved spending time with the grandkids and great grandchildren. Mr. O'Brien is survived by one son, Richard Leo O'Brien, Jr. (Melisa) of Statesville and two daughters, Evelyn Wright Young (Bradley) of Statesville and Kathy Cunningham (Jim) of Charlotte. He is also survived by one brother, Paul O'Brien of Maine, a sister, Anna Good of Maine, and a step-sister, Joanne Ray of Rhode Island along with ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services for Mr. O'Brien will be conducted at 7:00 PM Monday, February 17, 2014 in the Nicholson funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Eanes officiating. The family will visit with friends following the services. Burial will be in the veterans section of Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences can be made to the family at
