Fred Wilson Lowry, Sr., 86, of Statesville, NC departed this world to be with his Lord on Sunday, September 7, 2014. He was born October 4, 1927 in Lowell, NC, and was the son of John Wilson and Edna Blanche Ford Lowry. He was a hardworking, faithful and devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather who dedicated his life to serving Jesus Christ. Laughter expressed his love for his Lord, wife, family, church, work, music and country. He was a graduate of Lowell High School and attended Lees-McRae College. After serving three years in the U.S. Army Medical Corp., he graduated from University of South Carolina School of Pharmacy in 1952. He was employed by Holmes Drug Company until he opened Lowry Drug Company in 1959. He always expressed sincerest appreciation for the support of all his customers over the years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Johnnie Mae Lowry and Sara L. Fisher; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Crisp Lowry. He is survived by his wife, Joan Featherstone Lowry; sister, JoAnn "Jo" Lowry Johnson; sister-in-law, Mary Featherstone; brothers-in-law, John Featherstone (Ann), Steve Featherstone; his children, Fred Lowry, Jr (Sherry), Scott Lowry (Amy), Paul Lowry, Beth Sloan (Dale), Mary Carol Pons (Harvey); 12 grandchildren, Rebecca Warchut (Drew), Amanda Lowry, Fred Lowry, III (Jessica), Don Lowry, Sara Lowry, Josh Lowry, John Lowry, James Lowry, Mary Beth Lowry, Cory Sloan, Aaron Sloan, Lauren Pons; and one great grand-daughter, Lowry Warchut. A celebration of life will be held at 6:30 PM Thursday evening, September 11, 2014, at Western Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Skip Cartin and Rev. Dr. Jeff Spry officiating. The family will visit with friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. A private burial will be held for the family in Oakwood Cemetery.
