Denverd Eugene Hodges, 78, of Statesville, passed away Monday, January 31, 2011 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Hodges was born in Watauga County on November 27, 1932 and was the son of the late Conrad Denverd Hodges and Mary Green Hodges. He was a graduate of Statesville High School and on February 3, 2007, he was married to Judy Reid Hodges, who survives. Mr. Hodges was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. Mr. Hodges was the former owner and operator of Hodges & Milstead and Hodges Exxon. He was a member of First ARP Church and served as an Elder and Deacon. He was also a board member for the Tri-County Mental Health and a member of the Statesville Civitan Club. Mr. Hodges also served on the Board of Directors for Yokefellow and was a member of the Alcoholics Anonymous for 47 years along with a volunteer for Hospice. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hodges was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Anne White Hodges who died October 8, 2001 and a brother-in-law, Larry Snoddy. Along with his wife, Judy G. Hodges of the home, Mr. Hodges is also survived by two sons, Denverd E. Hodges, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C. and Darren B. Hodges and wife Jennifer of Statesville; one daughter, Debbie H. Overcash and husband Mike of Statesville; one grandson, Issac Overcash; two granddaughters, Abbi Overcash and Sara K. Hodges; two great-granddaughters, De'Liza and De'Layla Overcash, all of Statesville. He is also survived by one brother, Norman Hodges and wife Jean of Salisbury, N.C., along with one sister, Amy Snoddy. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Hodges will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday, February 4, 2011 at First ARP Church with Dr. Charles Steele and Rev. Robert Sherer officiating. Burial will be prior to the service at 1:15pm in Oakwood Cemetery with full military rites. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 until 8:00 PM Thursday evening at Nicholson Funeral Home.
