THOMASVILLE - Ms. Sonya Evon Clay, 42, of Thomasville passed away January 23, 2021 at High Point Medical Center. Ms. Clay was born July 15, 1978 in Greenville, SC, lived in Thomasville, NC, and was last employed as a cashier at Mrs. Weiner's. Sonya was very particular about how she looked, and she loved to get her hair done and to dress well. In her spare time she loved watching YouTube. Ms. Clay dearly loved her children and loved spending time with her mother and niece. Ms. Clay is survived by her mother Marlon Gail Clay, father Carlin Chanker Hopkins (Patricia), sons Jaheil and Javon Boyd, sister Chandra Ray (Adrian), brothers Patrick Hopkins, Demajeza Rodgers, and Jeffrey Thompson (Kristin), Aunts Irene Young, Lilian Clay, Mamie Gaither, Carolyn Russell, Pamela Clay, Mary Sue, Robbin , Julia, Hallie, Dian, Mary Ann, Sue Varnum, Uncles Charles Hopkins, Stanley Clay, Joseph Hopkins, God-sisters Teecoumpsy Moss, Shquainda Pratt, Tanyell Spann, Brandy Varnum, Natasha Jefferies, and Shannon Jefferies, special friend Talina McClendon, special cousin Bryant Hudson, and special niece La'Naee Rodgers. A memorial service for Ms. Clay is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at B&B Funeral and Cremation Services, 1528 National Highway, Thomasville, NC. Due to the continued threat of COVID-19 spread, anyone attending will be required to strictly adhere to safety measures and protocol, including wearing masks, social distancing, and limited capacity.
