Shirley Abernathy Sigmon, 72, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Sigmon was born May 28, 1938 in Catawba County and was the daughter of the late Ivy Franklin and Bertha Hefner Abernathy. She was a graduate of Catawba County schools and on December 16, 1956, she was married to Buddy Joe Sigmon, who survives. Mrs. Sigmon was formerly employed with Bassett Furniture and most recently Orbit Ind. where she was a seamstress. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Claremont, N.C. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sigmon was also preceded in death by a brother, Dillard Abernathy and a sister-in-law, Martha Abernathy. Along with her husband, Buddy Joe Sigmon, of the home, she is also survived by three sons, Timothy Wayne Sigmon and wife, Tina, Kevin Mark Sigmon, and Randy Scott Sigmon and wife Kim, all of Statesville; two sisters, Hilda A. Hefner and husband Adrian and Margie A. Sherrill and husband Arthur Ray, both of Conover, N.C. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Katy, Mary, Taylor, and Tess Sigmon along with two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Payton Spear. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Claremont with Pastor William Hollar officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm Wednesday at the church, prior to the funeral services.
