Shirley Ellen Williams Shives, 79, of Statesville, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Autumn Care following a lengthy illness. Ms. Shives was born in Iredell County on September 23, 1934, and was the daughter of the late Carl Redmond Williams and Edna Mills Williams. She was a graduate of Statesville High School and she was a member of Shiloh Methodist Church. Ms. Shives was a retired machine operator with Jockey International in Mocksville. In addition to her parents, Ms. Shives was preceded in death by four brothers, Alvin, Lewis, Clyde, and Tommy Williams. She is survived by one son, Joel Shives and wife Beverly of Statesville, one granddaughter, April Higgins and husband Elbert and one great-granddaughter, Kearston Higgins, all of Claremont. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Martha Williams of Troutman and a special cousin, Violet Bost of Statesville along with seven step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services for Ms. Shives will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday, May 16, 2014 at Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Matthew Emory and Rev. Carl Williams officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home. The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to Rev.
