Sarah Kathleen Fox McCoy, 96, of Statesville, passed away June 7, 2017 surrounded by family. The youngest of eleven children, she was born August 14, 1920 in Iredell County to the late John Calvin and Della Hatchett Fox. Kathleen was a 1937 graduate of Cool Spring High School and was married to William Coyte McCoy on May 11, 1940. They enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage before his passing in 2000. Mrs. McCoy is survived by a son, John William McCoy(June) of Statesville; daughters, Linda Stikeleather (John) of Statesville, Judy Kennedy (Max) of Denver, NC, and Sandra VanHoy (Albert) of Olin; four grandchildren: Melissa Fowler (Greg) of Stanley, Scott Kennedy (Brent) of Denver, Colo., John Stikeleather, III (Lea) of Statesville, and Carrie Currie (Joe) of Hillsborough, NC. In addition, Kathleen is survived by six great-grandchildren: Allison F. Saunders (Matt), Eian Fowler (Kelsey), John “Jack” Stikeleather, IV, Baker Stikeleather, Jacob Currie, and Carter Currie. She is further survived by three sister-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by grandsons, John William “Jay” McCoy, Jr. and Adam VanHoy (infant); a sister, Nora F. Wilkie; and brothers, Earl, Garland (infant), Glenn, Clint, Rome, Horace, Mack, J. Coite, and Devon Fox. Kathleen was a lifelong member of Providence United Methodist Church where she served in various ways during her early years. She was a homemaker and after the children were in school, she worked at United Merchants, retiring in 1983. Funeral services will be held 3:30 pm Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Providence United Methodist Church with Revs. David Locke and Ron Karriker officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service in the Church Fellowship Hall from 2:00 – 3:15 pm. Mrs. McCoy will lie in state at Nicholson Funeral Home until Noon on Sunday prior to the funeral hour.
