Sara Whitener Hartline, 84, of Statesville, died Thursday, March 15, 2018 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born February 20, 1934 in Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Sidney Otha Whitener and Lillian Brantley Whitener. She was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Hartline on April 6, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her twin brother, Sidney Whitener and brothers Willis and Harry Whitener and sisters, Barbara Freeze and Joyce Eaton.
Sara was a member of First A.R.P. Church where she was formerly a very active church volunteer. She retired from Parlier Plumbing & Heating and loved basketball, particularly the North Carolina Tarheels.
Survivors include a son, Joe Hartline (Lori) of Corvallis, Oregon, two daughters, Cindy Burch and Leona Sides (Gregg) and a sister, Annie Lapish. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Alex Burch and his fiance’ Stephanie Taylor and Jacob Sides currently studying abroad in Kyoto, Japan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Services celebrating Sara’s life will be conducted at 12:00 Noon on Monday, March 19, 2018 at First A.R.P. Church with Pastor Phil McCoy officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. A committal service will be held at 11:00 A.M. at Oakwood Cemetery prior to the service.
