Mrs. Sandra Lorraine Tilley Hollifield Boyer (Sandy), 69, of Statesville, N.C., died Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She was born in Hampton, Va., January 4, 1946, to the late George F. and Janie Nantz Tilley. Sandy was a graduate of Statesville High School, class of 1964, and Davis Hospital School Of Nursing, class of 1967. On March 10, 1967, she married Floyd V. Hollifield, who preceded her in death in 2003. In October 2006, Sandy married the Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Boyer, Sr., of Tucson, Ariz. The Boyers accepted a call in 2008 to Front Street Baptist Church in Statesville, where Dr. Boyer served as pastor to the senior members of the church until his retirement in 2015. Sandy is survived by her husband Marvin, her daughters Giah Hollifield Kress (Jason) of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Jaina Hollifield Hall (David) of Brentwood, Tenn., and childhood friend Louise Shoemaker of Statesville. Sandy was preceded in death by her sister Judi Bell of Statesville. Also dear to Sandy’s heart were a niece, Talana Bell-Wilkins (Mike) of Dothan, Ala., and a nephew, Dr. Joby Bell (Susan) of Boone, N.C. Sandy’s delight was her precious grandchildren Brennan and Ethan Kress of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Hayden, Carlie Jayne, and Marshall Hall of Brentwood, Tenn. Survivors also include Dr. Boyer’s children with his first wife Sue: Marvin L. (Sam) Boyer, Jr. (Tina), Joseph Boyer, Daniel Boyer (Angela), and Selah Boyer, along with Dr. Boyer’s grandchildren and one great grandchild. Sandy’s love and devotion for her sister-in-law Ann McJunkin (John) and brother-in-law John Hollifield remained strong after the death of her first husband Floyd. Sandy worked in Statesville, N.C, Nashville and Lebanon, Tenn., and Tucson, Ariz., as a registered obstetrical nurse until her retirement in 2008. She was also employed at Barium Springs Home For Children during the early 1970s. Sandy was saved at age 9 and loved the Church dearly. She was a member of Diamond Hill Baptist Church and Front Street Baptist Church in Statesville and College Heights Baptist Church in Gallatin. Throughout her Christian life, she faithfully sang in church choirs and taught children’s Sunday School. Funeral services in Statesville are scheduled for Wednesday, November 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Front Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Stutts officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home in Statesville. Sandy will be laid to rest alongside her first husband Floyd following a committal service at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 20, at the Sumner Memorial Gardens in Gallatin, with the Rev. Dr. Larry Gilmore officiating. Honorary pallbearers in Statesville will be Atwell Brown, John Hollifield, Elmer Johnson, Larry Sane, and Mike Wilkins. Active pallbearers in Gallatin will be George Austin, Dave Hall, Hayden Hall, Jason Kress, Brennan Kress, and Kevin McLin. Condolences may be sent online to the family at
