Rufus "Wayne" Holland

October 19, 1932 — February 15, 2019

Rufus “Wayne” Holland, 86, of Olin, passed away Friday, February 15, 2019 at Davis Regional Medical Center.

Wayne was born in Iredell County on October 19, 1932 and was the son of the late Ace Holland and Kathleen Holland.  He was a graduate of Harmony High School and on September 22, 1960 he married Rachel Haithcox Holland and together they shared over 58 years of marriage before her passing on November 28, 2018.

Wayne was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He was a member of the American Legion Harmony Post 113. Wayne was a member of Olin United Methodist Church and he served on several committees for the church over the years.

Wayne spent his working career as a dairy farmer.  He also volunteered with the Harmony VFD for 30 plus years, having served as the active treasurer.  He was also known for his ability to “tell a story”.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Robert Holland and one sister, Frances Bray.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Donna Templeton (Mike) and two sons, Doug Holland (Renee) and Brad Holland (Kathryn) along with six grandchildren, Joshua Money, Ethan, Emily, Brittany, Ace, and Luke Holland.  Also surviving are sister in law, Nancy Davidson and brother in law, Tommy Haithcox.  A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services honoring the life of Wayne Holland will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, February 18, 2019 at Olin United Methodist Church with Rev. Garry Revels officiating.  Burial with full military honors provided by the American Legion Harmony Post 113 will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will visit with friends Sunday evening from 6:30 until 8:30 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home.
