Roscoe Austin Stilwell, 95, of Statesville, NC died Wednesday, April 22, 2015 in Lexington, SC. He was born September 15, 1919 in Charlotte, NC and was the son of the late Beulah Duncan and Samuel Roscoe Stilwell. A graduate of Statesville High School and Mitchell College, he later completed a banking and finance program at the University of North Carolina. On May 6, 1936 he was married to the late Christine Hedrick Stilwell who preceded him in death after a marriage of 65 years! Mr. Stilwell was a member of the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Statesville. For most of his 65 years there he served on the Session first as a Deacon and for many years as an Elder. He was active in his church and his community and spent many joyful moments reliving old times at Carolina Motor Company lovingly named “The Information Center”. An avid golfer, Mr Stilwell achieved 8 holes in one and at age 83 was honored to have shot his age! For over 20 years Mr. Stilwell served as plant manager for the Columbia Baking Company (Piedmont Baking Company). During his leadership the Statesville plant grew to be the largest in the company. He was later offered the position of vice president at the Statesville branch of the Northwestern Bank (First Union, Wells Fargo). He retired from that position after 20 years. Mr. Stilwell was a gentleman who loved his God and his family. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was also preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Duncan Stilwell Parzych, four brothers and three sisters. He is survived by one daughter, Sarah Anne Stilwell Cooper(Carl Butler) with whom he lived for 12 years prior to moving to the Carroll Campbell Place, Lexington, SC. He is also survived by two grandsons, Dr. Wayne Franklin Sease (Dr. Kerry Kennedy Sease), David Austin Sease (Anastasia Eddins Sease), and three great grandchildren, Ryan Austin Sease, Abigail Kennedy Sease, Henry James Sease and many loving nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his faithful companion, his dog, Duncan. Memorials may be made to the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 123 East Broad St., Statesville, NC. A graveside service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2015 in Oakwood Cemetery with nephews of the deceased, The Reverend Dr. Richard Byron Graff and The Reverend Dr. Ralph Duncan Stilwell officiating.
