Mr. Roger Dale Johnson, 65, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at his home. Dale was born in Caldwell County on December 7, 1953 and was the son of Rufus Monroe Johnson and the late Arona Lucille Michael Johnson.
Dale worked for Yellow Transportation in shipping and receiving and retired after 25 years of service.
Dale was a “fix-it” kind of guy. That ability allowed him along with his brother to be owner/operators of J&J Carpentry & Repairs. When not working on projects, he could be found on any race day watching his favorite sport, NASCAR.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Johnson.
Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Erica M. Jenkins (Errin) of Stony Point and Jennifer Williams (Roger Duke) of Statesville along with his three grandchildren, K. Brianna Johnson, Brittany Crowder (Dustin) and Brandon Williams and two great granddaughters, Sophee and Kalleigh Beane, all of Statesville. He is also survived by one stepson, J. Adam Meredith (Christine) of Lexington, NC, three sisters, Donna Souther (Roland) of N. Wilkesboro, Brenda Shephard (Gary) of Harmony, Patsy Leckey (Rob) of Cleveland, NC and three brothers, Wayne Johnson (Paula) of Taylorsville, Richard Johnson (Debbie) of Hiddenite and Kenneth Johnson of Statesville. He is further survived by his K-9 companions Keesha and Rowdy along with a host of nieces and nephews.
A gathering for family and friends is scheduled for Friday evening, May 31, 2019 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home. A private celebration of life and scattering ceremony will be scheduled for a later date.
