Robert Staley Trullinger, Jr., age 79, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023, after a brief stay at Hinkle Hospice House and Davidson Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lexington, NC. Born on September 25, 1943, in Harrisburg, PA, he was the son of the late Robert Staley Trullinger, Sr. and Doris Mae Reed Trullinger.
Bob attended Gettysburg College and went on to Vanderbilt University for his masters and PhD in French History. Dr. Trullinger taught Humanities at UNC-Asheville in the 1970’s and then moved to Mount Pleasant, Michigan to work at Central Michigan University in the Extended Degree Program traveling extensively throughout the United States setting up Central Michigan University degree programs.
In 1989, he married the love of his life, Julia Daniels. Bob sat on the Mount Pleasant City Commission and was Mayor of Mount Pleasant in 1994. Bob and Julia ended up in White Plains, NY where Bob worked at Empire State College and Julia worked at Westchester Community College teaching Psychology.
They retired in Cary, NC and Bob was predeceased by Julia in 2022. They both were very active, traveling, socializing, volunteering and were great friends and hosts to many.
Bob is survived by his son, Alex Trullinger (Leslie); stepdaughters, Lynnly Piasecki (Fred) and Alicia Carroll; grandchildren, Eli and Naomi Piasecki, and Jesse Rodriquez; and Cary, his King Charles Spaniel. He enjoyed his step great grandchildren, Grayson, Luke, Morgan, Madelyn, Stella, and Flynn.
A Memorial Gathering to honor his life will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Nicholson Funerals & Cremations, Thomasville Chapel. A special thank you goes out to the wonderful people at Davidson Health and Rehabilitation Center and Hinkle Hospice House.
