Mr. Robert Elwood Brady, 88, of Statesville, died Sunday, October 8, 2017 at home. Born October 5, 1929 in Iredell County, he was a son of the late James Archibald Brady and Estelle Smith Brady. He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Brady, Jr. and a brother, James A. Brady, Jr. and sister-in-law, Betty. Bob was married on November 10, 1951 to the former Ann Lowrance Brady on November 10, 1951. Bob was a graduate of the Statesville Senior High School class of 1947. He graduated from The Citadel in 1951. He served five years active duty in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and in French Indo-China (First Vietnam War). He remained in the Air Force Reserve for an additional 15 years and completed his military career as a Lt. Colonel. He served as Treasurer of Brady Printing Company from 1958 to 1978. He loved flying and served as director of operations of Mountain Air Cargo until his retirement. While in business in Statesville, he was a member of the Downtown Merchants Association, serving as chairman on several occasions, a founding member of the Dogwood Festival, treasurer of the Library Board, member of the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. He was a supporter of Mitchell College, serving on the Board of Trustees. He served several terms on the Statesville Airport Commission. In retirement he was an active volunteer at the Iredell County Public Library, served in the civil Service Commission and took courses at Mitchell College. He enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening, spending time with family and friends and sailing. Bob was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church. He taught Sunday School and was Superintendent of Sunday School. He served as a Deacon and an Elder. Survivors in addition to his wife include, a son, Jim Brady of San Diego, California, and his special friend, Brian Costley, two daughters, Ann Brady (Richard Kohrman) of Mebane, N.C. and Caroline B. O’Connell (Martin) of Brunswick, Maryland. Also surviving are grandchildren: Olivia and Eliza Kohrman and Patrick, Lauren and John O’Connell, nieces Louise McGinnis and Jeanne Jarvis. Bob’s funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church in Statesville, NC. Visitation will follow in the church parlor.
