Robert Sloan Earnhardt, Sr, went to be with his Lord on April 4, 2019.
Robert was born in Mooresville, NC on December 22, 1927 to the late James Alexander Earnhardt, Sr. and the late Ila Mae Penniger Earnhardt. He graduated with his GED from Mooresville High School. He started working at the age of 12 on Saturdays and after school fixing bicycles and working on car radiators. After that he worked several different jobs until spending 20 years working at Service Tire and Oil in Mooresville for Johnny Templeton. He began working for Suburban Propane Gas in 1960 and worked there 30 years until his retirement in 1990. Following his retirement, he spent lots of time in his large shop doing odd jobs for his wife, family and friends. Keeping busy helped him live a long full life. He was affectionately known as “Pop” by family and friends alike.
Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He spent 17 months in Pusan, Korea as a mechanic. He was also in several cities in Korea and parts of Japan.
He was married to Mary Alice Little Earnhardt on September 7, 1952, who survives. They were happily married for 66 years. He and Mary Alice met at a square dance in Mooresville, NC. He was the caller and after Mary Alice visited a few times he blew his whistle one time too many, or exactly at the right time!
In addition to his wife Mr. Earnhardt is survived by two children, Deborah Earnhardt Rosenbalm (Robert), and Robby Earnhardt, Jr (Carol), along with four grandchildren, Andrew Rosenbalm (Betsy), Holly Rosenbalm Mickler (David), Ryan Earnhardt (Storm), and Zachary Earnhardt.
