Richard Phillip Haliburton

May 2, 1947 — February 15, 2017

Richard Phillip Haliburton went home to our Lord and Savior on the morning of Wednesday, February 15th 2017 in the Sticht Center at Wake Forest Medical Center in Winston Salem, N.C.  He had been in the hospital a short while recovering from an illness.  Born May 2, 1947 in Burke County to Hilda (Lail) Halliburton Cranford and William Philip Halliburton, Richard grew up in Connelly Springs.  He attended Valdese High School graduating with the class of 1965 and went on to attend East Carolina University. On June 30, 1990 he married Wanda (Graham) Haliburton. They were happily married for 26 years.  Richard’s work history included time in hardware stores, the concrete industry and though he retired from GE, Richard co-founded H&H Creations, Inc. where he served as the company Vice President.  He was an owner of Sixty Seven Pizza Co. in Jonesville and Marion and Lakeside Pizza in Rhodhiss, N.C.  He was also the co-owner of Pearl Valley Preserve in Ohio where he managed the property.  Richard enjoyed being outdoors, tackling any new project, spending time with his pets, watching sports, leading hunts in Ohio and traveling with Wanda and their many friends.  He will be remembered for having a quick wit, a true spirit of adventure, and the tenaciousness that allowed him to succeed in a multitude of endeavors.  Richard was a Mason at Lovelady Lodge #670, a member of Union Chapel Baptist and also attended Christ Church of Statesville N.C. in recent years.  Richard was preceded in death by his parents, William Philip Halliburton and Hilda (Lail) Halliburton Cranford, his step-father, Paul Cranford, his father-in-law PeeWee (Larry) Graham, father-in-law, Thomas Nesbit and beloved pets, Moses, Zero and Masky.  He is survived by his wife, Wanda (Graham) Haliburton; children, Crystal H. (Bryant)York, Michael Horton, Ricky(Patti) Haliburton, Libby (John) Huff; mother-in-law, Reatha Nesbit; his grandchildren, Wyatt York and Morgan and Holly Haliburton; brother-in-law, Brian (Jill) Nesbit; nephews, Zane, Alex and Cory Nesbit; additional family, Bobby (Tonya) Wycoff and children Mackenzie and Julia; and his best friend; Leon Foss among numerous other friends and family. Richard is also survived by his Jack Russells, Pooh Bear, Utah and Pearl Haliburton. The family will receive friends at Nicholson Funeral Home in Statesville on Saturday February 18th from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. The service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Bobby Henderson officiating.  The burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Connelly Springs, N.C.  Pallbearers are Bobby Wycoff, Frank Miller, Billy Robbins, Matthew Current, Steve Campbell, William Houston, and Jeff Houston. Honorary pallbearers are Leon Foss, Glenn Cornett and Lynn Dagenhart, Junior Miller and Levi Stutzman.
