Mr. Herbert Ray Campfield, 57, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Campfield was born December 15, 1953 and was the son of Victoria Crews McKoy and the late Arthur Campfield, Jr. He attended New Hanover County schools and on December 22, 1979, he married Gail Smith Campfield, who survives. Mr. Campfield was retired truck driver having worked with Cargo Transport and he was of the Pentecostal Faith. In addition to his wife Gail S. Campfield, and mother, Vicki C. McKoy (Ed), Mr. Campfield is also survived by three daughters, April Schronce (Randy) of Statesville, Ashley Campfield (Frankie) of Harmony and Crystal Randle of Las Vegas, NV. He is also survived by one brother, Harry Campfield of Wilmington, N.C. and one sister, Cindy Lloyd (Kenneth) of Austin, TX. He is further survived by one granddaughter, Abigail Barnes of Harmony along with two grandsons, Talon Ray Schronce of Statesville and Darion Atkins of Las Vegas, NV. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Brian Pleasants officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. Following the services, the family will meet at the AmVets Post 500, 720 Meacham Road, Statesville. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials are made to Herbert Ray Campfield Memorial Fund, c/o Nicholson Funeral Home, 135 E. Front Street, Statesville, N.C. 28677.
