Phyllis Elaine (Moose) Grant

Phyllis Elaine Moose Grant, 78, of Statesville, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at the Gordon Hospice House. Born May 25, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Dempsey Lee Moose and Margaret Elizabeth Nash Moose. She graduated from Celeste Henkel High School class of ’57 and married Donald Roy Grant on April 30, 1960. Phyllis retired from J.C. Penney Distribution Center where she worked in the detail office.  She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Statesville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by their only son, Donnie Rodney Grant in 1997, and also a brother, Donald Moose. Phyllis is survived by her husband of 57 years Donald, a sister, Carolyn M. Mahaffey (Rex), a brother, Leon N. Moose (Mary) along with several nieces and nephews. Phyllis lived a busy life, caring for their special son, Donnie, working, planning and traveling on bus trips.  She was also a volunteer with Iredell Memorial Hospital, the Gordon Hospice House and would do home visits with the Palliative Care of Hospice.  She was the current president of the Golden Age Club and former (Queen) of a “Red Hat Club”. Funeral services honoring the life of Phyllis Grant will be conducted at 11:30 AM Saturday, October 21 at Temple Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Mitchell, Pastor James Childress, and Pastor Terry Tevepaugh officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM at the church.  Burial will follow in the Ham’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville NC 28625.
