Phillip Lee Willoughby

August 12, 1944 — September 8, 2018

Phillip Lee Willoughby, 74, of Statesville, passed away peacefully in his home Saturday morning, surrounded by his favorite ladies, Patricia, Jerri Sue, and Melissa.

Phil is survived by his devoted and loving wife Patricia, sister Katie, three children Jerri Sue, Brian and Melissa, and his dog Mollie.  He loved Patricia’s children as his own; David, Kathy, Robin, Tommy, and his beloved grandchildren.  Phil will be missed by many and remembered for his quick wit, ability to lighten any situation with laughter, hatred of food that “didn’t look right”, interest in fast cars, and love for his special dog who passed away long ago, Otis.

Phil served active duty in the Army during the Vietnam War. After his military duty, he worked tirelessly for Estes Express Lines for decades, working his way from Office Assistant to managing all operations for multiple states in the Southeast territory. He took less than a handful of sick days off in over 44 years of service and was loved by his fellow employees.

A private family service will be held on Sunday. Phil’s ashes will be placed alongside his beloved dog Otis and also scattered in special places by each of his children. A Celebration of Life event will be held from 1:00 until 4:00 pm Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce, 310 S. Catherine Creek Road, Ahoskie, NC 27910.

Online condolences may be made to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com and Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family.
