SUMMERFIELD- Mr. Phillip Ray Westmoreland, 85, of Summerfield, NC passed away May 21, 2021 at Cone Health in Greensboro, NC. Phillip was born May 31, 1935 in Oak Ridge, NC to the late Harley Lee and Minnie Moran Westmoreland, attended Oak Ridge School and then Summerfield School from where he graduated. While in high school he met his future wife Becky and after graduation Phillip worked with his father in his general store in Oak Ridge, Westmoreland's Grocery. Phillip continued to see Becky until they were married on July 21, 1952. In 1958 they were blessed with their first son and continued to build their family with three additional children. As they started their family Phillip began his 50 career in trucking by joining McLean Trucking. Phillip dearly loved his family. He also loved Nascar racing and enjoyed his musical instruments. Phillip was a simple man and it didn't take much to please him - a good meal, a TV show, and a recliner. In addition to his parents, Mr. Westmoreland is preceded in death by his sister Evelyn Lineback and his brother Harley Lee "Buddy" Westmoreland, Jr. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 68 years Rebekah Ann Barham Westmoreland of the home, four children Randall Westmoreland (Judy) of Stokesdale, Greg Westmoreland (Sherri) of Oak Ridge, Lou Clayton (Tony) of Summerfield, and Jill Chrisman of Summerfield, two sisters Phyllis Clodfelter of Oak Ridge and Naomi Holbrook of Stokesdale, five grandchildren Josh Westmoreland, Nic Clayton, Aaron Clayton, Joseph Chrisman, and Victoria Nicol, and two great-grandchildren Dash and Logan Claire. Funeral services for Mr. Westmoreland are scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Moravia Moravian Church in Oak Ridge, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:15 pm until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Moravia Moravian Church Graveyard Fund or Philadelphia Baptist Chapel.
