Mr. Henry Richmond "Penny" Long, 94, of Statesville, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015. Mr. Long was born in Statesville on August 20, 1920, and was the son of the late Zebulon Vance Long and Isabel Scott Long. He was a graduate of Statesville High School and was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church where he had served as a Deacon. He was a retired Vice President of the Statesville Chair Company. He was a long time member of the Statesville Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow and for many years, was the Sergeant of Arms for the club. He loved people, social activities, playing cards, swimming, and playing golf with his friends. For all that knew Penny, they will miss his character, his smile, his humor and most of all, his commitment to them as a friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Waddell Long and two brothers, Zeb Vance Long, Jr., and John Addison Long and a niece, Ann Long Davis. He is survived by a nephew, John A. Long, Jr. of Chapel Hill, NC and two great-nieces, Carrington Davis Brown and husband Jason of Boone and Laura Anne Long of Chapel Hill. He is further survived by his cousin and wonderful caregiver, Amy Scott Spears and husband Kent and their children, Will and Lily Spears of Statesville. A graveside funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, February 8, 2015, in the Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Steve Scott officiating. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 125 N. Meeting Street, Statesville, NC 28677 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
