Peggy Marlene (Patterson) Childress

Peggy Marlene Patterson Childress, 81, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Ms. Childress was born December 5, 1935 in Kannapolis, NC and was the daughter of the late Woodrow Wilson Patterson and Leila Kathleen McLain Patterson. She was a graduate of Celeste-Henkel High Schools, she loved to travel and especially loved having her whole family together under one roof. She was proud to help carry the Olympic Torch for the 1989 Olympic Festival in Oklahoma City, OK. She is survived by five children, Lisa Gentle Warner (James) of Knoxville, TN, Roger A. Gentle of Statesville, Carrie S. Childress of Oklahoma City, OK, William J. Childress, Jr. (Laura) of San Roman, CA, Kelly J. Curry of Knoxville, TN; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; one niece, Jennifer Moore of Statesville and one nephew, Mark Patterson of Statesville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Phillip Stephen Paterson and one sister, Teresa Patterson Moore. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2017 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jacob Potter officiating. The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home.
