Peggy Holmes Owen, 88, of Statesville, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 2, 1929 in Iredell County to the late James Cleveland Holmes and Louise Lankford Homes. Peggy was a graduate of Statesville High School, Mitchell College, and Catawba College. She was a teacher and retired from Statesville/Iredell Schools after many years of service. On August 17, 1952, she married William “Bill Sr.” Ray Owen, Sr., who survives. They shared almost 65 years of marriage before her passing. Peggy was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church and had served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Peggy was a sweet and giving lady who will be missed by all that knew her. She believed in immediate forgiveness and taught and practiced it throughout her life. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Holmes and two sisters, Kathryn Louise Holmes and Nanearle Holmes Loftin. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Bill Sr.; a daughter, Karen O. Hutchison of Pa.; a son, William R. Owen, Jr. (Deborah) of Statesville; three granddaughters, Erin Hutchison, Casey Hutchison, both of Pa. and Caroline Owen of Statesville; a grandson, William Ward Owen of Statesville; and two sisters, Mary Helen Walker of Statesville and Barry Bradford of Fl. Memorial services will be held 4:00 pm Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Gehring officiating. The family will visit with friends at the home of Bill Sr. Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broad Street UMC, 315 W.
