Paul "Goat" Burgess Bass, 75, of Statesville, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Gordon Hospice House. He was born in Iredell County to the late F.J. and Lillian Chambers Bass. Paul attended Harmony High School and served his country honorably in the Army. He was married on October 26, 1968 to Margaret Stevenson Bass, who preceded him in death on August 29, 2004. They had over 35 years of marriage before her passing. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church and had worked for Myers Stained Glass and was retired from Laws Stain Glass where he was a window builder. Paul had no children of his own but adopted all the kids in the community. He never met a stranger and helped anyone and everyone who was in need. He will be missed by all that knew him. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, June, and Tom Bass; and four sisters, Aileen Bass, Mildred Henderson, Polly Moose, and Drusilla Haithcox. Left to cherish his memory are four sisters, Hazel Odom, Dorothy Carson, Peggy Keller, and Betty Lou Honeycutt; one brother, Jack Bass, all of Statesville; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and his special friend, his dog Stella. Funeral services for Mr. Bass will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Bethany Presbyterian Church with Rev. Frank Stewart officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by the Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail will follow. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday night at Nicholson Funeral Home.
