Nelda Mary Harrison Jordan, 86, of Statesville, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, January 1, 2019. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. The only child of the late William Glen Harrison and Ruby Camilla Baumgarner Harrison, Nelda was born on November 10, 1932 in Statesville. She attended D. Matt Thompson School before moving with her parents to Portsmouth, Virginia during World War II. Upon the family’s return to Statesville, she attended Statesville Senior High School graduating in 1950. In November of 1950 she married William Jordan of Todd, N.C. They had three children and Nelda was a homemaker. They later divorced and to support her family, Nelda worked as a retail clerk at Roses and Hallmark stores for many years. Nelda was an avid reader and instilled a lifelong love of reading in all of her children. She never met a crossword puzzle she didn’t like. Nelda sang in the glee club in high school and continued singing and playing piano in church for many years. In her later years, Nelda was an active member of Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church. She participated in many church organizations including Christian Women’s Club and Happy Seniors. One of her greatest pleasures was attending church functions with food, fellowship and her many friends.
Nelda is survived by her son, Bruce Jordan (Cathy) of Statesville and daughters, Kathy Hermens (Tom) of Springfield, Oregon and Loretta Wood of Statesville. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
