Mr. Neil Allen Garnett, 80, of Statesville, passed away on Saturday, March 2 at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Garnett was born in Carver, MA on August 7, 1938 and was the son of the late Clarence Garnett and Agnes Anquist Garnett. He was a graduate of Silver Lake High School in MA. On September 12, 1987 he married Valerie Hayes Garnett and together they shared 31 years of marriage until his death.
Mr. Garnett was retired from B.E.T.S Truck Leasing where he worked as the regional manager. Earlier in his working career he served on the Carver VFD along with the Carver Police Dept. He was a lifelong member of the Upland Sportsman Club in Plympton, MA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Garnett, a granddaughter, Aubrey Garnett along with his siblings, Earl, Junior, Ronnie, Mim, and Ruth.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Valerie, one son, Bill Garnett (Sarah), one daughter, Beth Sheppard and one sister, Faith Woods. He is also survived by two step-sons, Arthur Gove (Kevin), Kenneth Gove (Mary) and one step-daughter, Christi Tippett. His mother-in-law, Virginia Mutchler along with 10 grandchildren, Adam, Amanda, Bill, Luke, Kennedy, Keegan, Paisley, Michael, Ivy, and Collin also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Neil Garnett will be conducted at 6:00 PM Thursday, March 7, 2019 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will speak with friends for 30 minutes following the service. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
