Naomi Nicholson Adcock, 82, of Statesville, died peacefully in her home on Saturday, August 5, 2017. She was an extraordinary woman who lived her life with quiet dignity. Born March 4, 1935, she was raised by devoted parents, Thelma and Robert Redmond, of Statesville. She was the loving sister of Dorothy Mae Nicholson. She graduated in 1953 from Celeste Henkel High School and went on to pursue nursing at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, earning her RN degree in 1956. There, she met and married her husband, neurosurgeon Dr. William Lester Adcock, Jr. They established a home in Raleigh, NC where they raised their children. She has three children, son J. David Adcock of Statesville; daughter, Catherine Ellen Adcock who precedes her in death; and daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Elizabeth and Richard Aronson, and grandchildren, Jennifer Lauren Aronson, Matthew David Aronson, and Jaime Rebecca Aronson, all of Greensboro, NC. Upon the death of her husband, Naomi returned home to Statesville. She was passionate about gardening and flowers, watching and nurturing the birds and wildlife around her home and providing a loving home for her dogs. In her later years, she provided a home for rescue dogs. She will have a private family service. The family would like to thank Naomi’s caregivers, Kay D. Padgette and Sceva Whipkey for their compassionate and loving care over the past few years. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Hospice of Iredell County for their support and care in the last few weeks of Naomi’s life. The family requests that any donations be made to any animal rescue organization of your choice to honor her love of animals or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
