Nancy Miller White, formerly of Statesville, died Saturday, July 30 in Durham, NC after a lengthy illness. Nancy is survived by her daughter Robin White, with whom she lived at the time of her death. She was predeceased by John Stevenson (Jack) White, her husband of almost 40 years. Nancy was born in Statesville on Feb. 14, 1927. She was the daughter of Nita and Harry Miller. Nancy and her mother opened Nita’s, a women’s clothing boutique in the mid-1960s and operated the business together until her mother’s death in 1976. She continue to operate the business until the late 1980s and enjoyed close friendships with many of the customers. After she closed the business, Nancy and Jack and their friends spent considerable time at their second home in Caswell Beach, NC. Nancy later sold her home in Statesville and moved permanently to Caswell Beach. She built a house in Southport, NC in 2006 and lived there until she moved to her daughter’s home in 2014. Nancy was a talented artist and pianist who enjoyed playing for her friends in her home. She loved music, museums, walks on the beach, painting, interior design, and travel. A private burial service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery on Wednesday morning, Aug. 3, 2016. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church in Statesville at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, Aug. 3. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Duke Hospice, the Duke University general scholarship fund, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
