Myles Henry Ireland, age 84, of Union Grove passed away peacefully October 29th, 2020 at his home with his loving wife PaL. He was born April 11th, 1936 in Union Grove, Iredell County, North Carolina. He lived and died within sight of the home where he was raised and the home where he was born to the late Troy Wilson Ireland and Mary Eldora Bennett Ireland. He is also preceded in death by his brother Jack Ireland.
Myles, along with his wife, was the proud owner of the Cook Shack in Union Grove where he shared his love of music with others from all over the world. He played the guitar and sang, covering bluegrass, western, country, Marty Robbins and even Elvis and numerous other types of music. Most of all, he loved his family and community and the extended family he created through years of running the Cook Shack.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 64 years, PaL Speece Ireland; sons, Myles Wendell Ireland (Annette), and Mark Anthony Ireland; daughters, Lesa Ireland Sharpe (Dennis), June Ireland-Mitchell (Gary) and goddaughter Shelia Speece Wood (Gary). Grandchildren, Shane Ireland Sharpe (Shelley), Sheena Sharpe Harris (Ryan), Marcus Myles Ireland (Callie), Marissa Ireland-Ratcliffe (Steven), Will Gary Mitchell, Charlie Drew Mitchell (Brandon Robinson), Jennifer Leaird (Corey), Zeth Davidson (Crystal), and Kahia “Blue” Wood; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Roger Ireland (Ann); sisters, Janis Sparks (Phillip), Jane Ireland Sherrill, Betty Lou Anderson (Herman), and Sue Ellen Going (Jim), and numerous other loving family and friends. Gone but never forgotten and now he will be making music with his loved brother in law, Zeb Speece, and the many musicians gone before him.
A funeral service will be held 12 PM Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Union Grove United Methodist Church, 1331 Sloans Mill Road Union Grove, NC 28689. The family will receive friends from 10: 00 AM until 12:00 PM at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow in Union Grove UMC Cemetery in Union Grove, NC.
