Monica Vargas Perez Eldridge, 67, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Carolina Medical Center. She was born on May 4, 1945 in Guadalajara, Mexico to the late Jose Jesus Vargas de la Torres and Carmen Elizabeth Perez Vargas. Mrs. Eldridge was a graduate of high school in Guadalajara, Mexico and on May 25, 1969 she married Donald Garland Eldridge, who survives. She was a nurse for the Red Cross in Guadalajara, Mexico and a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. She loved working in her garden especially her roses, and loved her son playing the guitar, playing in the church, taking care of the grandchildren and especially taking care of her husband. She loved her husband and children very much; they were always very close to her heart. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister in 2005, Elena Vargas Waugh. Along with her husband of 43 years, she is also survived by, a son, Edward Salvador Eldridge (Leonor),of Statesville, a daughter, Nancy Eldridge Mason (Tim), Lenoir and six grandchildren, Melissa Eldridge, Deanna Wilkins, Kevin Eldridge, Carmen Wilkins, Julian Eldridge and Chase Mason. She is further survived by two three sisters, Carmen Vargas, Maria Jesus Vargas and Victoria Vargas, and three brothers, Javier Vargas de la Torres, Chito Vargas Jose Jesus de la Torres and Steven Vargas de la Torres. A mass of Christian burial for Monica Eldridge will be conducted 5:00 PM Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Father Eduardo Barrera and Deacon Matt Reilly officiating. A burial will be conducted Thursday at 3:30 PM at Iredell Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Nicholson Funeral Home.
