Mrs. Mildred Sigmon Martin, 82, of Statesville, passed away Monday, May 18, 2015, at Maple Leaf Healthcare. Mrs. Martin was born in Iredell County on February 26, 1933, and was the daughter of the late James Odell Sigmon and Era Bell Sigmon Honeycutt. On November 19, 1949, she married Thomas Neal Martin, Sr., who preceded her in death on July 30, 2014. Mrs. Martin was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and a graduate of Mitchell Community College Nursing Program. She retired from Piedmont Healthcare and was previously an LPN with Iredell Memorial Hospital. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Charlie S. Honeycutt, half-brother Tommy Honeycutt, and her best friend of 51 years, Geraldine Cornelius. She is survived by two sons, Thomas Neal “Buck” Martin, Jr., (Diane) of Harmony and James Darrell Martin of Statesville along with two granddaughters, Traci M. Fox (Staton) and Erica M. Henson (Rob) and a grandson, Jody S. Martin. She is also survived by a great-granddaughter Alex Fox. She is further survived by a brother, James L. Sigmon along with numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. Mildred’s biggest joy in life were her grandchildren, the Atlanta Braves, UNC Tarheels, and of course her flowers and animals. Funeral services for Mrs. Martin will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, May 22, 2015, at Providence UMC with Rev. Bob Nations officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Active pallbearers will be Vic Ellis, Bradley Moore, Curtis Moore, Kenny Moore, Jimmy Rowe and Richard Wright. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providences UMC, 1273 Old Mocksville Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
