Mildred Jane (Gaither) Yelton

Mildred Jane Gaither Yelton, 80, of Statesville, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018 at the Gordon Hospice House. She was born on September 24, 1937 in Iredell County to the late Sam C. and Mary Wetmore Gaither.
Jane was a graduate of Scotts High School, Erskine College, and received her Master’s in Education from UNC-Charlotte. She taught 2nd grade at Monticello Elementary for seven years before retiring. Jane was married to Melvin J. “MJ” Yelton on July 28, 1963 and they shared almost 55 years of marriage before her passing. She will always be remembered for her caring heart.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Gaither.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, MJ; two daughters, Suzanne Y. Jordan (Jeff) and Melinda Yelton; a granddaughter, Kim Jordan (Drew Bennett); a grandson, Kyle Jordan (Emily); two great grandchildren Zeke and Ellie Jordan; and one brother, Sam Gaither, Jr. (Kirsten).
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kyle Jordan officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. The family will visit with friends following the service.
