Melvin Wilson, 70, of Charlotte NC, was called home on Oct. 7, 2022, at
Hospice of Monroe NC. His battle is won.
Mel was born on Jan. 4, 1952, in Charlotte NC, the son of Samuel Wilson II &
Eunice Wilson. He was raised in Charlotte NC, in Biddleville, and graduated
from West Charlotte High School.
After graduating, Mel went into the United States Army, where he received an
Honorable discharge. After the Army, Mel went on to work for Bonded
Distribution, where he worked for 7 years. He went on to drive for D&L and
ended with Waste Management and was with them until his Retirement.
Mel enjoyed fishing, traveling, cooking and holidays with friends & family. He
also enjoyed watching Westerns and Andy Griffith. He never met a stranger
that he couldn’t get along with.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Samuel Wilson II, brothers Charles,
Bernard, Samuel Wilson III, and sister Phyllis.
Mel is survived by his wife Barbara, Son Melvin (Tameka) and daughters Sonya & Toi. His mother, Eunice Wilson, one brother Jerry Wilson (Christine) and one sister Janet Rashum Peguese; Four grandchildren, Lauren, Dorian, Antoine Jr (AJ) and Brailen; one great grand-daughter Avani; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and Friends.
Mel was a dedicated member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, where he sang in
the Choir, Ushered and was there for whatever that was needed of him.
Not only was Mel a great Son, Father, Brother, Uncle, Cousin or Friend. He was also a stand-up man who was caring and put their needs before his own. He was a character to say the least and could make you laugh even if you didn’t want to.
Mel, you have truly left your mark on us, and it brings comfort to our hearts to
be able to laugh at some of the things he used to say. In the words of Melvin
Wilson, “If I plant you, you’ll grow 6 foot”.
You may be gone, but you will forever be in our heart and never forgotten.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church, 1243 West Blvd., Charlotte, NC with Rev. Dr. Major Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service beginning at 12:00.
A graveside service with Military Honors will follow at Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens, 11201 Beatties Ford Rd., Huntersville, NC.
