Mr. Melton McDonald, 47, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 24, 2012 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. McDonald was born February 20, 1965 in Iredell County and was the son of Edmond and Shirley Dobbins McDonald of Statesville. He attended Iredell County schools as well as Mitchell Community College. Prior to his disability retirement, he was employed with Jetcor where he was a machine operator and he was a member of Crusade Revival Church. Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Ann McDonald along with several aunts and uncles. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Verlencia McDonald, two sons, Christopher Jakes of Aynor, SC and Davon Strickland, two daughters, Ayliah McDonald and Kyla Strickland along with three grandchildren, Makenzie Strickland, King Armoni Strickland and Nevaeh Jakes, all of Statesville. He is also survived by three brothers, Leon Junior McDonald of Charlotte and Edmond McDonald III and Kelly McDonald along with two sisters, Mary Lee McDonald and Debra Bailey, all of Statesville. He is further survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services for Mr. McDonald will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, August 31, 2012 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Harrison Gillespie and Pastor Dunlap officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 until 11:00 am at Nicholson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bryant, Antonio, Quantaey and Kenny McDonald, Alvis Harding and Paul Cauthen. Flower girls will be Deonca, Star, Tanisha, Tiffany and Janell McDonald and April Strickland.
