Max Ray Shaver, Sr.

Mr. Max Ray Shaver, Sr., 79, of Stony Point, died Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He had been in declining health, but death was unexpected. Born in Iredell County on November 10, 1936, he was a son of the late Carl Shaver and Ozelle Holland Shaver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosa Jenkins Shaver, a grandson, Hunter Thompson and infant twin brothers. Max retired after 25 years as a Lieutenant with the Iredell County Sheriff Dept. and later worked with Nicholson Funeral Home. He was a graduate of Union Grove High School in the class of 1955. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church on Lippard Farm Rd. On September 4, 1992, he married Margie Dyson who survives. Also surviving are sons: Ray Shaver (Gail), Gene Shaver (Lisa) and Bobby Shaver (Libby), a step son, Scott Thompson, a brother, Tony Shaver(Glenda), one sister, Donnia York (Homer). Also surviving are grandchildren: Amber McComack, Michelle Shaver, Kelly Hayes, Kristen Shaver, Wesley Shaver, Eric Shaver, McKenna Shaver, Cheyenne Thompson and great grandchildren, Acadia Hedges, Amaya Gill and Thomas Hayes who is due in October.  He is further survived by aunt and uncle Rex and Jestene Templeton along with numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 P.M. today (Sunday) at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Curtis White officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
