Mary Ellen Woodward, age 79, of Muskegon, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2024. Born on November 10, 1944, to Robert and Carrie Mahaffy Butler, Mary was a woman of boundless love, kindness, and generosity. She was the beloved wife of Robert Woodward, whom she married on July 9, 1966, and together they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and happiness.
Mary's greatest joy in life was her family. After struggling with infertility for many years, she was overjoyed to welcome her son, Adam Woodward, into the world in December 1978. Adam's birth was nothing short of a miracle, and Mary cherished every moment of motherhood. In turn, she became a proud and devoted grandmother to her five grandchildren: Lauren, Mikaela, Avery, Ari Rai, and August. She showered them with love, teaching them the importance of family, kindness, and acceptance. Her love for each grandchild was unconditional, embracing them with open arms and a heart full of warmth.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, Robert Butler, and her mother, Carrie Mahaffy Butler. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Woodward; her son, Adam Woodward and his wife, Melissa; her cherished grandchildren: Lauren, Mikaela, Avery, Ari Rai, and August; and her siblings: Phyllis Stimson, Patsy Schneider, Nettie Tilden and her husband Dan, George Butler and his wife Sherry, and Mike Butler and his wife Sheryl. She is also survived by many extended family members and friends who were blessed by her presence in their lives.
Mary's legacy of compassion, generosity, and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
